Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Teemu P — 27 Sep 2015
23 years ago when I was just a boy I read the Hobbit, Followed by the lord of the rings. I frequently re-read entire chapters I was so captivated and enchanted by it.
What they did to this ... made me sick to the stomach. It was nothing like the book but that wasnt the problem. It felt like a long running Danny Glover and Mel Gibson action sequence towards the end. The book imparted a sense of desperation and a world on the edge of chaotic destruction whereas the movie turned it into a Disney fest of weirdly unaligned timelines of events, Such as impending doom seconds away for a group of characters , switch scenes for 20 minutes to something else then back and things and apparently time had stopped for the almost annihilated aforementioned group.
I accepted the ridiculous unrealistic battle scenes from lord of the rings but this all just made no sense whatsoever irrespective of if you read the books or not.
Probably my biggest disappointment in movie history. J.R.R. would of been ashamed.
