Review of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) by Bradley H — 29 Nov 2014
There is certainly no faulting the visual effects and the texture of the world Jackson creates here. Likewise, Martin Freeman is well cast and capable of sustaining the lead role.
However, there is just too much motivation and explanation of the world that is glossed over. (Mountains are fighting? Why?) (The albino orc wants to wipe out a dwarf bloodline? Why? Oh, because he swore to do it.) Moreover, the pacing never gave me a chance to get to know some characters that I assume might be important.
