Review of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) by Patrick K — 14 Dec 2014
The long awaited prequel to the Lord of the Rings first it was Peter Jackson as the director then it was Guillermo Del Toro with Jackson producing but Jackson decided to take over with Del Toro stepping down.
I will admit I never thought it would be made let alone make another trilogy. The film itself is quite well made it retains the beauty of the Lord of the Rings franchise with extra sharpness of the current technology.
Seeing it in 3D was weird with the new frame rate made it seem like its going in fast forward but as the film goes on you get used to it. As a film it was really good not on the level of the LotR trilogy but pretty damn good as Bilbo and Gandalf go on a journey across middle earth to reclaim the lost dwarf kingdom of Erebor with the few remaining dwarfs.
Its a visually stunning film first and foremost with the fantasy appeal of all the LotR films. Cant wait for the sequel later this year.
