Review of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) by Richard Y — 19 Jan 2015
Sooo... slow. We get it, Peter Jackson, New Zealand has beautiful scenery; now would you please pick up the pace and get to the story! This film and the last one combine to show that there really was not 3 films worth of story here.
The middle story is extremely well paced and enjoyable, but the two bookends are overlong and boring, but for completely different reasons. In this film's case, there is a LOT of waiting around for things to happen which frankly should have been cut down substantially.
We don't NEED the slow songs and landscape shots; we got those in the LOTR trilogy. Here, it just bogs down the pace.
