Review of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) by Thomas H — 10 Jan 2015
It cracks me up to read the critics who say the movie stretched out beyond the confines of the book. Obviously, not Tolkien fans and have not read the various appendices and other background material of which the movie does a great job of adding.
I found the movie great, especially in 3D with the 48 FPS! Of course, I am currently reading Tolkien's "Unfinished Tales", so I clearly would like anything Tolkien - but only as long as it was true to the books (with some allowance for film needs, etc.
). This movie fits that bill in spades. I have watched it several times and will be watching it again several times - each time more rewarding than the last. Looking forward to the next two movies in the series! And, then, hopefully, some movies from the 1st and 2nd Ages! Lots of good material for movies there.
