Review of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) by Petros T — 26 Nov 2015
Part one of the Hobbit film trilogy is good if slightly uneven. A lot of its visuals are rather breathtaking yet look kind of fake. The screenwriters have made some changes to the original story but, more strikingly, have added new parts and have thus created a 170-minute film, with no apparent reason.
Turning a 400-page book into a trilogy means bigger profits, but why make the actual movies so damn long? Still there are several thrills, and Martin Freeman is very enjoyable in the titular role.
