Review of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) by Ernest W — 16 Feb 2017
The extended edition is well worth the money. I read all the J. R. R. Tolkien Hobbit novels in 1975 before many knew what they were. There was 5 volumes with The Hobbit, being the first, then the trilogy of The Lord of The Rings, and the fifth was an appendix to all the books with all the pertinent information, and there was plenty.
It being as thick as the rest of the books in the set which were full of the most minute of details, in small print paperbacks that were 1.50", 23mm thick and the appendix was almost as valuable as my bible concordance.
I even had 3 calendars from 1975-1977 that had been done by various painters, the best were by the Brothers Hildebrandt, who also did a series of posters a few years later for Coca Cola with a college student theme in the UCSD area of San Diego at the time.
Alas all are gone, unawares at the time of what was to come. Just as well, I still see the movies but spend all my reading time studying the KJV bible with a Strong's Concordance,2, either a 1963 edition or the New 2012 edition.
