Review of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) by Henry E — 23 Dec 2014
The film's major problem is its inability to decide upon a direction. Is it a emulation of the dark Lord of the Rings, or does it remain true to the childish Hobbit book? The answer is that it does neither.
The necromancer and the threatening Azog do not belong in a film that also contains a wizard with bird droppings down his hat who rides a sleigh pulled by rabbits and three pantomime trolls. Gollum's presence makes up for a massive array of problems.
