Review of The Hoax (2006) by Kristie K — 05 Jan 2008
Most of what's good in this movie either comes from the actors or the fantastic true story itself. The movie does neither of these things justice, but still manages to entertain. Gere and Molina are excellent, and Julie Delpy is so luminous that you wish that she could have had a bigger part.
The only weak link is Marcia Gay Harden, whose Swiss/German accent is a little hard to stomach, and I cannot help but think that Julie Delpy would have been better cast in her role. In the end though story wins over execution, making it a worthwhile 2 hours.
