Review of The Hoax (2006) by Parvin K — 12 Jun 2008
First let me say that I hate Richard Gere with the fury of 1000 hells. Still I liked this movie pretty well. I must grudgingly admit that Gere did a good job playing this role. It probably helped that the character was an immoral, sleazy, lying conman.
Essentially, the story revolves around the real life account of a writer who convinced almost everyone that he wrote a biography in collaboration with Howard Hughes.
Alfred Molina is fantastic as the reluctant accomplish and the story is well written. I really like how even though Howard Hughes plays a large role in the film without ever appearing. Still we see him manipulating events and discover that though he may be insane his reputation for a master of manipulation was well earned.
