Review of The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) by John W — 27 Aug 2017
I have to take issue with the lead "critic" statement that this movie has an overabundance of action-comedy cliches. This was one of the best action comedy movies and the best movie so far for summer of 2017.
The film editing alone must have taken hours because every shot included some kind of surprise or something to ponder, no matter how fleeting (example: bad dude's truck approaches with short clip of bobbing dog heads on the dash board - might have been doberman pinschers).
To my husband and my small and inexperienced minds (and granted we haven't catalogued all action comedy flix) this movie was chock full of funny lines and surprises at every turn. I would see it again just for the chase scenes that contained so many surprises and funny touches that we couldn't catch them all.
Yes the interpersonal plot themes may have been used before but we found these to be well done, funny at times and not extremely predictable. The writing was excellent overall and the semi-comedic yet classic music used during the more tense chase scenes created the perfect quirky atmosphere.
