Review of The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) by Tim W — 17 Apr 2018
3 stars for the chemistry between two likeable leads and some spectacular action set pieces worthy of a Bond movie. There are also some great comedy moments - Ryan Reynolds and the windscreen is worth a mention - and it's high octane pace never eases up.
So far, so good. Then it all comes undone with the inclusion of the plot line involving a very real historical scenario that has no place in a comedy movie . That, and the utterly reprehensible character played by Selma Hayek who, screen goddess though she may be, is so vile it's unpleasant when she's on screen.
And that's saying something given the body count. Once again, Hollywood makes the mistake of overloading otherwise decent dialogue with way too much bad language. If they'd just kept it simple and stayed away from the excesses it would have been a cracking buddy movie.
