Review of The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) by Regis M — 03 Sep 2017
Right now this one is at the top of the box office, but that' s clearly because of the lack of competition. The basic idea is pretty good and the casting of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson is terrific, but it gets badly bogged down in senseless car chases and meaningless gun battles.
The Director is fairly new, I think this is his third film, and it shows. If he had stuck to the interchanges between Reynolds and Jackson the film would have been at least 4 stars. But all of the extremely bad CGI and mindless action scenes weigh this down.
In the end we were not unhappy that it had ended. There are some highlights, such as the small scenes with Salma Hayek, but not enough to save it. Too bad really, we had waited several weeks to see this.
If you have nothing else to chose from, by all means go, it's got enough to make it worth it. But otherwise wait a week or so for something good to come out.
