Review of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) by Ian B — 19 Nov 2011
A lot of people rip on this movie for not being "exactly like the book", but seeing as Douglas Adams wrote the screenplay I'd say those people need to lighten up and enjoy the movie for it's own merits.
Obviously these were changes Adams wanted to make because he knew the film would be it's own thing. The performances in this movie are what really stand out and make it so enjoyable, especially those from Sam Rockwell, Mos Def and Martin Freeman.
The supporting cast is also filled with some amazing talent, the movie has a ton of amazing visuals, and the soundtrack by Joby Talbot is some of the funniest music I've heard in a long time. Of course this isn't a perfect movie (it drags in spots), and isn't as good as the books, but it's still better than it had any right to be (especially since Adams died before it was even completed).
This is definitely one of those movies I enjoy more and more with each viewing ....and will hopefully make you want to go read the books.
