I have never read the book, which may be a good thing according to those who are die hard fans of the book. Nothing against them. So just as a film in general, the film is pretty good and entertaining.

There is some dry funny moments in the film on par to almost Monty Python type of humor. You can tell the gripes in this film (the questions of life, religion, red tape bureaucracy, and politics) are pretty plain to see and addressed in a bit outdated Monty Python fashion.

However, the film is enjoyable enough and the computer effects are actually pretty good and entertaining. They also seem to use puppet FXs as well which is really well done and seems to fit the film very well.

It almost makes you wish MIB and other such films would use it more. Zooey Deschanel is her usual cute self playing the same basic character she always seems to play. The other characters are interesting enough and played well.

Especially Mos Def as he plays a character that seems to fit his acting ability fairly well and better than his character in "16 Blocks." All in all an enjoyable film I'm glad I saw, but I doubt I will ever buy it or watch it again.

I may pick up the book one of these days.
