Review of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) by Amanda C — 04 Mar 2012
This is an awful film, which is unfortunate because it had such promise. It's a great cast and there's so much opportunity for some great set bits. Unfortunately the film comes across as stagey and way too chatty and ultimately falls flat.
There's no spark or energy and the actors, particularly Martin Freeman, seem like they're just collecting a paycheque. Even the effects are lack luster which in this day and age there is no excuse for.
The only saving grace of the film is the always impeccable Alan Rickman, whose depressed robot is ridiculously amusing. Unfortunately, that's not enough to sustain a film.
