I was aware of the book from my geek friends, but not being a geek myself (or just too lazy to read) I simply skipped this film when it came around the first time. As beloved as they seemed to make this book, I think something must have been lost in the translation. It's easy to see the messages that everyone in the political process is either irrational, evil or moronic. And that the universal question tying the universe together is our own existence meaning. It was all presented a little quickly and ended too simply to be true.

But it's still a lot of fun. Sam Rockwell channels his inner David Lee Roth to play the beach bum President of the Galaxy. Zooey is as manic-pixie-girlish as ever. Mos Def continues his roles as a faithful sidekick. I wasn't much a fan of the main character Arthur. Too careful for his own good, I think that once the Earth blows up, your personality is probably going to 180 right the fuck away. But then everything is tied together by the perfectly funny manic depressive robot, Marvin.

It won't change your view on the worl or the galaxy or life, but it has not cool sights, ideas and jokes to make it worth a watch.
