The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a hilarious, thrilling adventure through space. Although people unfamiliar with the source material (such as I) will be confused at a lot of things and events, the film's objective isn't to be faithful to the book or to make complete sense, it's purpose is to entertain and amuse.
It successfully does both.
