Review of The Hitcher (2007) by Michael D — 25 Apr 2009
A traveling couple's decision to give a stranger a lift turns out to be highway of nightmares in this inferior remake of the 1986 suspense/road thriller that recalls several scenes from the original.
..and there lies a large part of the problem. It offers nothing really new, with the exception of some mildly interesting stunt work and even more intense brutal violence. Such mediocre measures, however, do not work in trying to outdo the first one.
Also, Bean's attempt to be even more menacing that Hauer's creep character (from the first one) simply doesn't make the grade. See the one with 86' version instead...or, for an even better road/terror/suspense flick, check out 1997's "Breakdown"!
