Review of The Hit List (2011) by Jerry F — 07 Jan 2013
I caught this one at the 2011 Phoenix Film Festival and it turned out to be little more than a big screen showing of direct-to-DVD schlock, albeit with a moderately entertaining concept. Unfortunately, that concept was buried under a steaming pile of clichà (C)s and lowest common denominator plot devices. It's as if the filmmakers were acknowledging their resignation to the fact that their likely audience needs flashbacks to events that took place MINUTES prior.
I do give them some credit for their dedication to keeping Gooding's character on message, though it meant being reminded *constantly* that, yes, he is a very very bad man (with radiation-induced, um, chest congestion?) Mercifully, the rest of the performances were bearable with a few glimpses of "pretty good.".
There are a few laugh out loud lines (which may have even been intentional) sprinkled with some real groaners. ("Are you kidding me??" "Even if I was, would it still be funny?").
You may want to check this out when it inevitably becomes available on your favorite video streaming service, if for nothing else than just to see the idea "executed"...
