Review of The History Boys (2006) by Fabien H — 13 Mar 2008
It's paedophilia but not as we know it. It's thespianism but not as we know it. Because the 2 blend so well, one overshadows the other and the former is made digestable somehow. Times have changed and the premise of this plot would have worked better if we rewind ourselves culturally by 30 years.
So while queer politics in this context fails, it still raises a worthy question about what sort of education a developed nation should be striving to give children - at a time when most inner city kids cannot quote Shakespeare but can easily quote Catherine Tate's "Am I boverred".
