Review of The History Boys (2006) by Giffy G — 03 Jun 2008
I'm 100% sure that this worked better as a play than it did as a movie. The ending alone felt play-ish, and I wish they had done something to make it less so. The characters were engaging and well acted, the camera did enough to make me feel like I was watching a movie and not a recorded performance of a play, and the dialogue was captivating.
To be up front, though, the movie is so steeped in 1980s British culture, that it would be extremely handy to be familiar with the British educational system before watching the movie. Decent enough.
