Review of The Hills Run Red (2009) by Charlene H — 07 Dec 2009

Entertaining. The film was high on the gore and death, which is a major plus in my books, and the fact that the twist I didn't see coming, even though it was so obvious was another plus, but the downpoint was that it kept going on and on about cliches and predictability, and thats exactly what it was. The open ending was eye-rolling, but the film itself once it got into it, was pretty original and a gruesomely fun time.

The plot was somewhat cliche, being in the woods, no once can help, but when the characters finally got to the end setting, thats when the originailty kicked in, and the film excelled in itself. There were a few plot holes, when one female character was a drug addict, but within a few days magically got cured from it.

The acting was good. "Sophie Monk" is stunning to look at, but it's great to see a fellow Aussie who can somewhat act aswell. While not entirely believable, she did give a somewhat realistic turn towards the end. 'Janet Montgomery" was the low-light. She never once changed expression apart from when she was screaming, and her voice was so irritating I was hoping she would die already. "Tad Hilgenbrink" was the star, but majority of the time I was thinking of what other film was he in, rather than focusing on his character which was obsessively annoying.

Overall "The Hills Run Red" is a gruesome, decent horror film, but lacks in complete originality. My rating is 3/5.
