Review of The Hills Have Eyes (2006) by Y M — 17 Sep 2010
Excellent movie.
The beginning is a bit dull. There's not so much interesting around. But then, when you don't expect it, it all starts.
The story itself is not that special, and not unique at all, there are tons of movies about families surviving in the middle of nowhere because their car broke down, haunted by creeps. But this movie.. is just very succesful and full of thrills! While watching I didn't want to miss a thing. Some things are awful and incredibly creepy. What a gory movie! I'm not so much a fan of that, but in this movie it just added something.
The acting, filming, locations and -we shouldn't forget!- costumes and make-up are more than wonderful. And beside the action stuff there's also some drama in it. I like it that there are also some beautiful scenes in it. Not too much, just good. The only thing that didn't stuck in my memory is the music, and that's not such a good sign I guess. Maybe they could have done more with that.
The Hills Have Eyes is not the scariest movie I've ever seen, but for sure one of the best horrors. It's a great combination, with all the ingredients for a great horror movie where watchers probably will still think of a long time after they watched it.
If you can't handle to watch gore scenes, you probably shouldn't watch it. But if you like horror and if you're searching for the 'real stuff', then it's highly recommended!
I'm curious to see the original but I also want to see part 2!
