Review of The Hills Have Eyes (2006) by Doctor S — 25 Mar 2013
It has some intensity, some scares, and some good performances - so why didn't I like it better? Something is missing from the mix here. Perhaps the single-mindedness of the story is far too familiar.
In High Tension, Alexandre Aja kept me on the edge of my seat for a solid hour with a combination of potent violence, surprising twists, and cat-and-mouse suspense. Here he indulges in only the first of those elements after spending (but not wasting) the first half by setting up our vacationing family in the desolate desert.
Aaron Stanford might have set a new 'Getting The Snot Beaten Out Of Him' standard.
