Review of The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007) by Mark W — 25 Aug 2010
A sequel to a Horror remake never really gives you high expectations, although the involvement of Wes Craven gave a glimmer of hope. Here it is a squad of National Guard rookies training in the desert who get picked off one by one by the mutant cannibals.
The characters, both goodie and baddie, are completely off the shelf generic with barely any attempt to create anyone interesting. Again the filmmakers fail to recognise that the best thing about the original was the sense of family within the mutants, here they are just ugly, lone freaks.
There's a bit of gore, and the faintest whisper of Iraq war subtext, but on average it is, well, very average indeed.
