Review of The Hidden (1987) by Francis B — 03 Jul 2007
It killed 37 people, robbed 6 banks, 2 liquor stores, a record shop, and stole 2 Ferraris. Now the fun starts. It just took over a police station.
I first watched this film when I was nine, so I have a rather soft spot for it. (I believe I gave it a higher rating than it really deserves. 3.5 stars sounds about right). I thought it was genius at the time, even though it scared the shit out of me back then.
Re-watching it now, it's a decent, action sci-fi with some very cheesy dialogue. It works if watched as a cultish B-movie. I thought it had a cool premise, involving an alien parasite that can enter its host and assume its identity. The interesting touch is that this interstellar bug digs Ferrari's, has a taste for hard rock music, and literally does whatever it wants while killing anyone that stands in its way. I like how the alien has it's own identity and asserts it through its hosts, kind of like a twisted version of Freaky Friday.
Btw, that DVD cover looks horrendous.
