Review of The Hidden (1987) by Mel V — 01 Apr 2004
Home on the Range.
I liked the art and the character designs, but the lead characters weren't that interesting or funny. It's about a couple barn yard animals who goes on a journey to capture a wanted criminal to claim the $750 award that they could then use to save their owner's farm from being claimed by the authorities.
Movies like this only work when the characters taking you through the journey are interesting enough to engage the you for 1.5 hours, - like the characters from Finding Nemo. In this case, they were only mildly engaging. The visuals weren't groundbreaking or anything, but the desert scenes do look pretty nice on the big screen.
The Hidden.
Kinda like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but not as scary, suspenseful, or engrossing. It moves quickly and is still pretty entertaining. It's also refreshing to hear in the director busting on the lead actor in the commentary. He said Michael Nouri has a great presence on screen, but he was unpleasant to work with. And he thinks that's the reason why he disappeared.
