Review of The Help (2011) by Ruth J — 02 Feb 2016
The Help is a faithful adaptation of Kathryn Stockett´s novel - although with an undeniably flawed direction - about racial prejudice and social inequality in the 50´s from the point of view of black maids of Mississipi.
Often heartbreaking - sometimes hopeful and funny - The Help is clearly elevated by its wonderful cast : Octavia Spencer´s temperamental Minny, Jessica Chastain´s naive and tender Celia, Cicely Tyson´s insightful Constantine, Alisson Janney´s manipulative Charlotte, Emma Stone´s confident Skeeter and, shining above all with a larger than life performance, Viola Davis´ Aibileen, whose superb acting continues to linger even after the credit rolls.
