I still think it's hard to define whether morris is a conman. even if catherine went with him, as the impulse she had in the last scene( right before finally going upstairs), that would still be her own choice, therefore couldn't be judged as she was lured into it.
would she be happy if she married a discreet wealthy man just like her father? would her money be squandered away by morris if she had him? we don't know. yet everyone has his own opinion, and I think this story and the way it 's been told rather makes one think and see a lot.
