Review of The Heat (2013) by James R — 05 Jun 2015
Not bad, but not entirely all that remarkable. A very typical tale of the straight laced cop teaming up with the crazy cop kind of tale much like the typical buddy cop films ala Lethal Weapon (1987), Hot Fuzz (2007), Rush Hour (1998), 48 Hrs.
(1982) etc. It's typical and predictable, but I found myself laughing mostly because of Melissa McCarthy and her over the topness (let's say I was glad this was Rated R). FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a by the books agents that desperately wants a promotion in the FBI, but everyone dislikes her big time.
She's sent to Boston where she is assigned to bring down a drug lord named Simon Larkin. She is teamed up with a local Boston cop named Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) who at first absolutely hates Ashburn, but they soon get along getting to know each other's side of things.
Overall, the movie has some funny moments, but it's lagged down by almost too much story at times (trust me it runs about 15 minutes too long) and like I said its a bit too predictable. Still I recommend giving it at least a rent!
