Review of The Heat (2013) by Tariq H — 07 Jun 2014
Bullock and McCarthy have good buddy cop chemistry and there are some funny moments in this one but it really isn't enough to raise this film above mediocrity. The plot is thin and predictable and the film goes on about 35 minutes too long.
While Bullock and McCarthy are good foils for each other, neither one becomes an engaging enough character. The message about both male and female attitudes towards women in the workplace is clear enough, but somehow doesn't seem to be integrated into the story well enough.
There was potential in this film but it just wasn't realized well enough by the producers and writers.
