Review of The Heartbreak Kid (2007) by Kyra K — 09 May 2010
In short the movie breaks down like this - approaching middle age Eddie marry's attractive Lila on the spur of the moment. This thoughtless decision turns out to be Eddie's ruin. However while on his honeymoon Eddie meets Miranda the real girl of his dreams and he is left trying to figure out how to get a divorce from Lila.
Stiller's character (Eddie) has a distinct lack of chemistry with Monaghan (Miranda) and since this needs to be the most believable relationship in the movie this is problematic. While the humour has a distinct There's Something About Marry feel it simply is not that funny. While TSAM pushes boundaries in a hilarious way the Heartbreak Kid tries to push boundaries in an awkard way.
Overall not worth the time, especially considering that some of the scenes are completely unnecssary.
