The Farrelly brothers' "The Heartbreak Kid" is a film of flagrant jokes and contrived gimmicks that often leaves its viewers angered or chuckling in the defense of its vulgar, tasteless humor.

Focusing on Eddie Cantrow (Stiller), his newlywed hell-bride, Lila (Akerman), and the "perfect girl" he meets on his honeymoon, Miranda (Monaghan), the movie stumbles in its stride towards being a comedic testament to why not to jump into marriage too soon, and ends up being a testament to how not to make -- or re-make (Elaine May's 1972 version is much better) -- a comedy.

In fact, aside from '05's decent "Fever Pitch", Bobby and Peter Farrelly haven't made much of anything worth the time or cost of admission since their celebratory heyday of "There's Something About Mary" and "Dumb and Dumber" -- and this film is no exception.

In the end, this "Kid" drowns itself in waters polluted with too many genre cliches and not enough hearty laughs.
