Review of The Heartbreak Kid (2007) by James F — 30 Sep 2011

Sophomoric comedy has a couple laughs but are too few and far between.

The film largely fails due to Stiller's character; he's a complete ass. It's possible to have a cad as the lead, but this film wants you to actually sympathize with him and it turns Akerman's character into a shrill psycho, thus giving Eddie a pass for being a total dick.

But it just doesn't fly, though the ending has the sort of acidic bite that the rest of the film desperately needs. Too little too late though.
