Review of The Heartbreak Kid (2007) by Katrina R — 21 Jul 2009
By all accounts, I should not like this film. The set up sounded stale to me and it had Stiller playing another hapless character. Having watched it, I'm happy to say that I had a blast with this flick and I get the feeling that there will be a little more love for this film a couple of years down the line....
First up, Stiller is not playing the same old schlub. He's not a very nice guy in this and the fact that the story remains true to this come the end, it was pretty cool... He's also pretty darn funny to boot. Michelle Monaghan is also really sweet, her scenes with Danny McBride (awesome!) cracked me up. The film's secret weapon is Malin Akerman. She is terrific and brings the funny with a real ease. The scenes where her insanity is revealed are just priceless to watch. I liked her in this a hell of a lot.
The Farrelly Bros. pawprints are all over this which was good to see, and it was especially good to have them back on form.....
