We watched The Heartbreak Kid on television while on vacation, which is probably how most people who enjoyed will have seen it. In fact, we were too tired to watch the ending, so we got a copy when we arrived home and finished watching it.
There are some very funny scenes that are best described as ridiculous. Mexican accents are funny! The movie diverges from the original a bit, but the spirit of the ending is the same.
You don't need to rent this, but if it appears on tv one rainy Sunday, watch it.
