Review of The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things (2004) by Meg R — 07 Jan 2007
One of the bleakest films I have ever seen. Every tragedy that befalls the young hero -- a fostercare "graduate" propelled into situations of ever-escalating comic horror by his junkie mother -- is as inexorable as fate.
Cole Sprouse (remember him as Adam Sandler's son in BIG DADDY?) gives a revelatory performance as the young victim. Brilliant acting and directorial debut by Asia Argento, too. Her Sarah is a mascara-smeared sociopath of demonic proportions.
If Courtney Love caught wind of it, she might well sue.
