Review of The Healing (2012) by Ian P — 13 Nov 2012
This horror movie by Chito Rono gives moviegoers spooks and creeps about faith healing this time after creating horror films about bagwa (Feng Shui, 2004), wedding curse (Sukob, 2006) and maligno (T2, 2009).
The story has a good horror twist to tell as the movie unfolds into a series of solving the curse-like deaths after taking a faith healing. Be sure to get hold on your seats as this movie is packed with scares and suspense that will really make you jump and scream! The dark atmospheres used and sound effects were effective in delivering the thrill it wants to deliver.
Plus add to that an ensemble casts of good actors like Vilma Santos in the lead whom I didn't know can be that great in horror movies as well and not just dramas that we are used to be. Janice De Belen was also perfect even as a support role.
The movie has imperfections as well like the use of CGI's to make the effects believable but some scenes which it was used were not effective. The movie has a weird themed colors as the scenes progresses - I interpret it as emotion provoking visuals on the part of the viewers.
Overall, a highly recommended Filipino horror movie and probably the best local horror film of 2012.
