Review of The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008) by Stevee T — 13 Apr 2010
The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008) is one of those films which everyone thought was bad, so I wanted to watch it to see if everything was true. It seemed like they were true. This film was bad. Just about as bad as cheap make-up on a hot day.
I honestly don't know how people could possibly like it at all. You see, it is supposed to be a horror film. Since when were horror films not supposed to be scary? Molly Hartley (Haley Bennett) is a girl who was stabbed by her mum when she was a kid, but has lived through to move to a different school when she was 17/18 years old.
There, she starts suffering from panic-attacks, strange hallucinations and nose bleeds. It gets so bad that she needs an operation for it. What is up with that? Anyway, in the story she gets stalked by a Jesus-freak, bitched about by the local popular chick (played terribly by AnnaLynne McCord, how can she call herself an actress?), befriends a girl with a serious anger problem, and falls in love with the rich guy (played by Chace Crawford.
I love him in Gossip Girl, but how could he take part in this thing?). It gets all a bit much by the end, and the finale is so bloody confusing it basically ruined the entire movie. I really hated this movie.
One good point, however, was the average performance from Haley Bennett, who might have a good film career if she chooses some better films. Not like this one. Note this in your diary, 'must avoid The Haunting of Molly Hartley'.
