Review of The Haunting of Helena (2013) by Mac M — 09 Mar 2014
*SIGH!* Ponderous, predictable and plagued with an annoying soundtrack and some completely irrelevant tacked-on details about disease-spreading mosquitoes, obscure wood carvings and Mussolini. The acting was wretched (although the child can be forgiven because she's, you know...a child) and the photography bleak-chic without any redeeming qualities whatsoever. There are only so many times a movie can cut to rain streaked marble statues and dirty windows before the shopworn art wears off.
Avoid it. It's haunting all right, but not in a good way.
