Review of The Haunting (1999) by Cheri H — 19 May 2009
FAIL. The 60s version of this story is so much more effective, so much more interesting, so superior in almost every way but budget. Jan de Bont ruined a perfectly good haunted house premise with a bunch of CGI nonsense that frankly bored me to tears.
This film was released in 1999 and Theo's homosexuality is actually TAMER than in the 60s version! It's more out in the open, but Claire Bloom worked that character to make her far slinkier, far sexier, far more aggressive with Nel.
How do you make a lesbian Catherine Zeta-Jones boring??? HOW???? My proclivities aside, this thing was just a dull thunker mess of a bad idea.
