Review of The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (2009) by Robert H — 14 Jan 2012
While I enjoyed the throwbacks to cartoons of old and I'm a fan of the styles used in such cartoons as Ren & Stimpy, El Superbeasto lives as nothing more than an immature cartoon built to please 13 year old pubescent boys who have a need for bombs, blood and boobs.
I didn't think the voice acting was that great for a good many characters. While I did think the characters were slightly interesting many of them seemed underused. The ultra violence and horror theme were enjoyable but easily thrown away as unmemorable.
I didn't have any problems with the crude themes explored here... they just get tiresome after awhile. Had the film been smarter and fresh, I think I would have enjoyed it more. As it is, seeing sex gag after sex gag with limbs being torn off in between... is only interesting the first time you see it.
