Review of The Haunted Palace (1963) by Christopher S — 03 Nov 2008
Decent entry to Roger Corman's "Poe series" of gothic horrors - though this one is actually based on H.P. Lovecraft's "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward". Vincent Price is absolutely in his element, and the lush sets and production design create a wonderful, gloomy gothic atmosphere.
But it does succumb to the major flaw of most of these types of movies: way too many scenes of people wandering down dark hallways - it's slow-paced, but Charles Beaumont's script offers some smart dialogue.
Excellent score from the very underrated film composer Ronald Stein - one of his best.
