Review of The Haunted Mansion (2003) by Stephen J — 09 Sep 2013
The Haunted Mansion is not scary or realistic enough to entertain adults, but it is a bit too frightening for younger audiences. The entirety of the plot is based around various religious and spiritual assumptions that are superficially harmless, but will greatly mislead children in their understandings of heaven, hell, and "haunting.
" Eddie Murphy doesn't appear to do any work at all; he's playing the same character he has played in every comedy: himself. The rest of the cast is unimpressive. The movie is meant to be a fun, "ride-to-film" Disney production, but the ride at Disney is much more enjoyable.
Not funny, spiritually unsound, and too frightening for younger audiences. Disney would do better to stick to talking toys, fish fathers finding family and friends, and magical mice. Don't rent it, don't buy it, watch something else.
