Review of The Haunted Mansion (2003) by Carl W — 16 May 2012
Adapting a terrific 3-minute theme park ride into a full blown movie is always going to be problematic. Eddie Murphy plays a realtor stuck with his family overnight in a haunted mansion inhabited by ghosts who believe his wife to be the key to break their curse.
The house and it's characters all look the part, instantly bringing to mind the delightful Disney ride they are based on (Mark Mancina's tuneful score, which incorporates themes from the ride also helps do this) but the film is slow, boring, shallow, and more grievously, quiet unfunny.
