Review of The Hateful Eight (2015) by Derek M — 22 Apr 2016
"Let's slow it down. Let's slow it way down." Tarantino's meanest but also one of his most ambitious pictures. It's fun to see a true artist refuse to play it safe, slowing down the pace and really allowing his calculated work to shine.
"The Hateful Eight" is a slow burn who-done-it turned up to 11 with over-the-top violence, nail-biting suspense, brilliant dialogue, killer performances (two of the best of the year from Goggins & Jason Leigh), the year's best score by Ennio Morricone and beautiful cinematography.
In other words, it's of the high caliber our previous Tarantino viewing experiences have led us to expect. See it in 70mm if you can, it's so worth it. Pick any 15 minute chunk of it and you've seen something that is alone worth the price of admission-- and then some.
