Review of The Hateful Eight (2015) by Henry W — 15 Feb 2018
Oh Quentin... It's so hard for me to say I didn't like this film as much as I wanted to because I love Quentin Tarantino so much. This film suffers from the same problem as Death Proof, it's too geeky.
Everyone knows Tarantino is a film geek but he went too far with this one he fell in love with the Ultra-Panavision cameras and he fell in love with his own writing. This film is far too long, there's too much dialogue about things that really don't matter.
It's ok in Pulp Fiction when it's contemporary things they're talking about, but here; they're talking about the Civil War, it doesn't mean anything to a contemporary audience. However, the cinematography was beautiful, and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Dommergue was amazing, I mean one of the strongest female characters he's ever written.
Very hit and miss.
