Review of The Hateful Eight (2015) by Esperanza S — 08 Jun 2016
This is Tarantino's best movie since his debut, 1992's "Reservoir Dogs", maybe partly because the plots of both movies are very similar, although "Hateful Eight" is almost twice as long, and far more violent, if that's possible.
Despite its nearly three-hour long running time, I wasn't bored for a second. In this revisionist Western, Tarantino basically puts a gaggle of nefarious types together in a cabin in the mountains during a fierce blizzard.
They eventually discover various connections they have with each other, as well as their true reasons for being there. Samuel L. Jackson is grand as unsual as a hard-working bounty hunter; Kurt Russell is fantastic as his rival, spending most of the movie chained to his prisoner; Walton Goggins steals the whole thing as an ex-confederate whose loyalties are unknown up until the very end.
This is vintage Tarantino: lots of blood, and an equal amount of snappy dialogue.
