Review of The Hate U Give (2018) by Aileen D — 02 Nov 2018

This movie was much better than I expected. The acting was raw and real, and elicited a lot of emotion. The storyline is very realistic, some parts pretty much pulled from recent headlines. The chemistry between the characters is strong, and Amandla Stenberg gives an award winning performance.

I will go back to see this again, as there were parts I was crying so much, I missed the dialogue. It was really refreshing to see a story that didn't paint one side as all good and the other as all bad, there was a mixture of both on each.

And the sweet relationship between Starr and her boyfriend showed how much understanding and empathy can help bridge gaps in lifestyle. I really believe this is a must see!
